The laboratory is fully equipped for the preparation of catalysts, nanoparticles, and other materials, as well as for performing thermal treatments under controlled atmospheres. It also features 3D printing systems and mechanochemical synthesis equipment for catalyst development.
The facility houses continuous fixed-bed reactors, batch reactors, photoreactors, membrane reactors, catalytic wall reactors, and microreactors. Integrated reaction setups allow for online effluent analysis via mass spectrometry (MS) and gas chromatography (GC), alongside an FTIR spectrometer for reaction monitoring under controlled temperature and pressure, and TPR/TPO/TPD instruments to analyze redox characteristics and solid adsorption. Additionally, advanced instrumentation is available through the Multiscale Science and Engineering Research Center of Barcelona.
Research at the Catalysis and Energy Laboratory focuses on the preparation and evaluation of catalysts for hydrogen production from conventional fuels, biofuels, and agricultural and industrial waste. Additional key focus areas include catalytic microreactors for portable hydrogen generation and photoreactors for the photocatalytic production of green hydrogen.
The Catalysis and Energy Laboratory is located on the 3rd floor of Building C at Campus Diagonal Besòs (Avenida Eduard Maristany 16, Sant Adrià de Besòs).
