CER-H2
On November 25th, 2021, the Governing Council of the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya (UPC) approved the creation of the Specific Centre for Hydrogen Research of the UPC (CER-H2) as a specific research center.
Vision
The Specific Centre for Hydrogen Research of the UPC (CER-H2) wants to become a world-leading research center in the field of hydrogen that:
Joins forces to address the major challenges of introducing hydrogen into the energy system.
Promotes inclusive, interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary research with a high rate of competitiveness, excellence and quality in order to meet the needs of society and industry.
Contributes to a greater knowledge and development of hydrogen technologies through fundamental and applied research, which is generated by the research talent of the CER-H2.
Therefore, the CER-H2 is created with the aim of turning the UPC into a body with the capacity of promoting the research and development of hydrogen technologies and infrastructures, accompanying the production system and the Catalan society, with the aim of consolidating the CER-H2 as a reference in this field.
Mission
The mission of the center is to work for the decarbonization of the energy system through the hydrogen energy vector at the following levels:
Research on hydrogen processes and systems.
Development of new technologies and solutions for hydrogen powered systems.
Technology transfer to society and in particular to companies in the field.
Implementation of pilot plants.
The CER-H2 aims to carry out a differentiated and relevant R+D+I (Research, Development and Innovation) around the hydrogen vector, within an environment of creativity and innovation of scientific, technological and professional knowledge.
Objectives
To consolidate a stable research structure within the UPC that brings together the critical mass necessary to meet the challenges of research and knowledge transfer related to hydrogen, which arise both in the academic and industrial fields.
To strengthen and consolidate the external image of the UPC as an active and pioneering university in hydrogen technology research and innovation.
To promote and seek funding for new research and knowledge transfer projects in the field of hydrogen technologies at the UPC.
To advise and support companies and administrations in the design and implementation of pilot experiments in the field of hydrogen, publishing the results of global interest.
To promote the collaboration of research groups involved in hydrogen technologies, especially those that work at the UPC, from different fields of science and engineering.
To transmit the importance of hydrogen at all levels of the university in order to increase the activity in this field: bachelor's, master's, doctorate, research groups, management and rectory.
