Contamination Control Laboratory

The Laboratory has a nitrogen analyzer, a carbon analyzer (TOC), an ion chromatograph, respirators for determining biodegradability, Microtox (for determining the toxicity of water or compounds dissolved in water), a pilot plant for membrane filtration (MF, UF, and NF), pilot plants for biological treatment (activated sludge and nitrification/denitrification), and electrochemical water treatment pilots (voltmeter, alkaline electrolyzer, and PEM).

In the electrochemical treatment processes of industrial water (wastewater and process water), H2 is generated as a byproduct. The goal is to find ways to recover it in order to analyze its quality and explore applications that optimize its generation/treatment to improve the overall energy efficiency of the production process.

In this laboratory, the treatment of industrial water is investigated through electrochemical processes. The generated hydrogen can be recovered to improve the energy management of the treatment plants.

The Contamination Control laboratory is located at Carrer Colom 11, TR7, Intexter, Campus de Terrassa (ESEIAAT).
